CQC, UKAS and GMC describe different forms of regulation, accreditation and professional registration. I encourage patients to use the official registers to check the relevant provider, laboratory activity or clinician, while remembering that a credential alone does not decide whether a particular test or treatment is right for them.
These terms are often used together, although they have different purposes. The useful question is whether the specific organisation, service or doctor you are considering can be checked in the relevant official source, and whether that service matches your clinical need.
Credential checks should never delay urgent care. If you have severe chest pain, severe breathlessness, collapse, sudden weakness, heavy bleeding or another life-threatening symptom, Call 999 or attend A&E. For urgent but non-life-threatening advice, use NHS 111.

CQC: provider and location regulation
The Care Quality Commission regulates health and adult social care services in England. Its records can help you check the regulatory position and inspection context of a registered provider or location. Use the CQC service finder and read the current record rather than relying on a badge or older statement.
UKAS: check the accredited scope
UKAS accredits organisations against defined standards and scopes. In healthcare this may include laboratory, imaging diagnostic or physiological activity. Samples collected at Victoria are processed by Medical Diagnosis Ltd's UKAS-accredited laboratory; this is a laboratory-scope statement, not an on-site accreditation claim for every clinic service. Check the official scope for the organisation and activity you are considering.
GMC: check the doctor
The General Medical Council maintains the UK medical register. Checking it can help you verify a doctor's registration and licence status. It does not replace asking about the clinician's role, experience with the relevant problem or the clinic's service scope.
What to do after checking
For routine care, ask who is responsible for your assessment, how a result is delivered, whether interpretation or follow-up needs a separate appointment and what fees may be separate. Availability, reporting and follow-up arrangements vary by route and are confirmed at booking.
