Cardiovascular screening brings together relevant history, measurements and selected tests to help a clinician discuss heart and vascular risk in a practical, individual way.
A screening plan should reflect age, symptoms, family history, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes risk, smoking and other personal factors. A broad test bundle without a clinical question can create uncertainty rather than clarity.
Screening does not replace urgent assessment for new chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting or stroke-like symptoms.

What may be included
The exact components are confirmed after a clinical discussion. They may include blood pressure assessment, cardiovascular-risk review, blood tests, ECG and—in selected situations—echocardiography or other onward testing.
| Component | What it contributes | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Blood pressure review | A measurement and pattern assessment | One reading may not describe usual blood pressure |
| Blood tests | Risk factors such as lipids or glucose may be assessed | Results need clinical context |
| ECG | Electrical activity at the time of recording | A normal ECG does not exclude every heart condition |
| Echocardiography | A structural or functional question where indicated | Not a universal screening test for everyone |
Choosing tests responsibly
We discuss expected benefit, limitations and follow-up before tests are booked. If a result is unexpected, the next step may be repeat measurement, clinical review or referral—not an automatic diagnosis.
Related pathways
If you already have symptoms, a symptom-led clinical assessment may be more appropriate than a screening package.
